Join us on Thursday 22 October for our Jazz Supper featuring live music from Marky ‘Piano Man’ Dawson and Derek ‘Sax Appeal’ Nash plus a special three-course dinner.
Be transported to Ronnie Scott’s-By-The-Sea as we present a wonderful evening of live jazz accompanied by an exquisitely special three-course dinner at our first Jazz Supper of the winter season. With music from renowned jazz musicians Marky Dawson and Derek Nash, playing both as solo and as a duet, you’re in for a real jazzalogical treat.
Marky ‘Piano Man’ Dawson
Virtuosic Jazz Man? Sensitive Singer Songwriter? Raucous Piano pounder? Just who is Marky Dawson? In a world too often concerned with pigeon holes, he is proud to be all three.
Marky is musical mainstay at Lake Yard and he is a popular draw whenever he plays. Born and raised in Poole, Dorset, he started teaching himself piano at 14. By 18, whilst studying at The London College of Music, he was working as a resident piano player in bars and clubs. It’s here he developed his flair for entertaining and an unerring ability to connect with audiences and get them singing.
Derek ‘Sax Appeal’ Nash
For over forty years, Derek Nash has led Sax Appeal, which won the John Dankworth Award for Ensemble in the 1998 BT Jazz Awards and the British Jazz Award for best small group in 2000. He leads the Derek Nash Acoustic Quartet, the funk/fusion band Protect the Beat and Latin band PICANTE. He is also a member of the Ronnie Scotts Blues Explosion, and has performed regularly at the venue for over 20 years.
Derek has been a member of the Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra since 2004. He has arranged big band charts for many artists including Nile Rogers, Jamie Cullum, Jose Feliciano, Van Mossison, Lulu, Gregory Porter, Chaka Khan, Boz Scaggs, and Paloma Faith. He also arranged six of the tracks on the No.1 album ‘Swing Fever’ featuring Sir Rod Stewart released in 2024.
